Something that I have come across in my travel along the shooting sports forums is that allot of shooters new and old always ask the masses are “what’s the best bipod” “what’s the cheapest option” etc. Now for a new shooter I can understand wanting to come in under a budget hell once upon a time I was the same I ordered a 30$ bipod knock off on a certain online retailer’s site. It lasted about 6 months and then parts started to fall off and it became scrap metal. With an experienced shooter I am less understanding of the budget side of things because they should honestly know better. With experience comes knowledge and most of that knowledge is that cheap things don’t always work for extended periods of time. I tell everyone to save money and just wait till you can buy something a little better than the bottom of the barrel.

After allot of time and money spent I have come up with my favorite. It’s the M-Pod by Mystic Precision.

Short answer: Outstanding in my eyes and the best shooting rest for the money if want a solid rest with a reliability and repeatability track record.

Long answer: It’s superbly stable when shooting from a bench or prone, light weight and easy to pack around. It slides smooth on most surfaces, but I find a piece of old carpet in my range bag as a shooting mat to be extra helpful. I not only take it to the range or when I am out brushing up on my marksman skills, but it also goes hunting with me in any situation where a long shot is likely.

There are a couple ways you can go about mounting them. You can add a second sling stud nut to the stock (or have a qualified gunsmith do so) once installed you can then install the t slot rail with included hardware.

Now with ARCA clamps and rails becoming very popular and being machined into some stocks and chassis from the factory it makes sense to use this solution. (Which is something I have done) I did a little research and found an ARCA clamp on Amazon that comes with a few bolts that not only fit the t-slot rail but mount it perfectly to the center of the ARCA clamp and make for a very stable mounting platform while also being able to adjust and remove with speed unlike some items that attach to sling studs and take a million turns to unscrew.

Only downsides I’ve found so far are because it doesn’t fold so you may be bumped into the unlimited class for some shooting competitions and the other was the knobs as I tend to fiddle and adjust allot so constantly tightening and loosening them can be hard if you have bad hands like me.

Although after a brief conversation with Jerry from Mystic Precision who made it clear these are very easy to user swap I was point in the direction of some that are more like a handle I have a feeling it will make my life much easier.

I hope that this helps new shooters or people getting into the sport of shooting when they are trying to decide on what equipment to invest in because a rock-solid rest is just like making sure the screws on your scope rings are tight. It might work once or twice but it won’t give you the long last repeatability that a quality item will.

I hope you enjoy your next range trip and remember to always practice safe muzzle control.

Cheers,

B
